Cisco Automation Engine for The WAN

Ray Mota, ACG Research, and Kishore Seshadri, Senior Director of WAN Orchestration at Cisco Systems, discuss the unique role of SDN in the WAN and its stringent SLA requirements on varied SP infrastructure. Cisco’s WAN Automation Engine (based on Cisco MATE) creates efficient, optimized utilization with orchestrated predictive analytics, and also opens the door to new revenue-generating services such as bandwidth scheduling. Kishore explains the technologies to bring this about, including continuous collection and correlation of traffic and topology to ensure that the network is right-sized for the demands it must handle. The algorithms and APIs built into this rapid-development platform are also discussed, and current customer deployments in multivendor networks are described.
